Getting to Hedavi - the road less travelled!
Train: Travelling to Hedavi depends on where you are starting your journey. The means and options will differ accordingly. For instance, if you are located in Mumbai or close to Panvel, Kokan Rail with the fabulous experience of the Vista Dome is a great option (see train times below - correct as of Jan 2025). From Chiplun, Hedavi is about an hour away with a private hire vehicle.
Car: This is one of the most common modes of transport now. It is convenient as you can choose the stops you take for your rest breaks. The commonest method is to connect to the Mumbai-Goa highway as this typically forms the bulk of your journey. Using Sat-Nav or Google Maps is the most appropriate way to navigate and adding Dashbhuja or Hedavi Beach as the final destination should serve you well.
Private Bus Coaches and State Transport: These replace the option of car for travel by road. It may take longer but is the most cost-effective way to get there.
Take a scenic route: This plan worked great for us in the past. We started from Pune and decided to route via Mahabaleshwar. A stopover for the night there at a local lodge/resort and we started the following day to get to Hedavi. Traversing the ghats was fun (about 30-50km of it). A couple of days at Hedavi served us well, we used that as a base to get to Guhagar, Velneshwar, and Parshuram on day 1 and then day 2 to the Ferry from Tasval to Jaigad fort. We spent 2 hours at the fort before leaving for Ganpati Pule where we spent the rest of the day and stayed overnight. We then did a 3-hour journey by road the following morning to arrive at Goa for 2 days and took a 30-minute flight back to Pune for our return journey!
